The LEGO Story: From Wooden Toys to a Global Phenomenon
The adventure begins in Billund, Denmark, during the early 1930s. Carpenter Ole Kirk Christiansen faces serious financial difficulties and must find a way to support his family. Rather than surrender, he starts making wooden toys in his workshop.
Success doesn’t arrive overnight. Ole struggles to sell his creations, experiences devastating setbacks, and even loses his workshop to a fire. Yet his commitment to quality and perseverance keeps the business alive.
In 1934, the company receives its famous name: LEGO, inspired by the Danish words “leg godt,” meaning “play well.”
As the years pass, Ole and his son Godtfred explore new possibilities, eventually moving beyond wooden toys and experimenting with plastic construction bricks.
One of the film’s most fascinating moments explains how the familiar LEGO brick evolved into a system that allows countless creations to connect securely. That simple but ingenious idea helped transform the company.
The animated journey also explores the family’s expanding ambitions, including the development of LEGOLAND and the company’s growing international success.
