Building a LEGO Bugatti is impressive enough. Building one at full 1:1 scale is extraordinary. But LEGO went one enormous step further: they created a life-size LEGO Technic Bugatti Chiron that can actually drive.
This isn’t simply a full-size display model shaped like a supercar. More than one million LEGO Technic elements went into an incredibly ambitious engineering project designed to carry passengers and move under its own power.
More Than One Million LEGO Pieces — And It Really Moves
The numbers behind this life-size LEGO Bugatti Chiron are almost as incredible as the finished car. The project used more than one million LEGO Technic elements and took over 13,000 hours to develop and construct.
Even more remarkable is what powers it. The car uses 2,304 LEGO Power Functions motors connected through thousands of LEGO Technic gears, producing an estimated 5.3 horsepower.
The finished creation weighs around 1,500 kilograms and includes working features such as a rear spoiler and speedometer. No glue was used to hold its LEGO Technic elements together.
Then LEGO took the creation to the Ehra-Lessien test track in Germany — the same facility used by Bugatti — and put Bugatti test driver Andy Wallace behind the wheel. Seeing a full-size car made largely from LEGO Technic pieces moving down a real test track is the moment this already crazy project becomes truly unforgettable.
