This 2480 lb giant pumpkin started as a tiny plant and ended up weighing more than a small car. Nicknamed “Bear Swipe,” the enormous pumpkin was documented throughout its incredible growth before eventually winning the giant pumpkin competition at the Topsfield Fair.
The timelapse compresses months of growing into just a couple of minutes, making it possible to watch the vines spread across the patch and the pumpkin transform from a tiny fruit into a gigantic orange monster.
From a Tiny Plant to a 2,480-Pound Monster
The growing process begins in early May with young pumpkin plants in the patch. Within weeks, the vines spread rapidly across the ground, and by late June a small pumpkin has begun its transformation.
Then the growth becomes astonishing. Bear Swipe gets noticeably larger as the timelapse progresses, eventually becoming so enormous that the person tending it provides an almost comical sense of scale.
During its fastest period, the pumpkin reportedly packed on more than 40 pounds in a single day. Keep repeating that kind of growth for weeks and the ridiculous final size starts to make sense.
The finished 2480 lb giant pumpkin eventually headed to Massachusetts’ Topsfield Fair, where it won the 2022 All New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off and set a new fair record at the time.
