This Real Life Mario Kart Race Down a Mountain Is Pure Chaos

This real life Mario Kart adventure sends a group of riders racing down a mountain in gravity-powered carts at incredible speed. With drifting, overtaking, jumps and plenty of chaos along the way, it looks like a video game brought into the real world.

Sam Pilgrim joins other riders in Sölden, Austria, for a wild descent where gravity provides the speed and staying in control becomes part of the challenge.

Mountain Carts, High Speed and Total Chaos

These mountain carts don’t need engines to make things exciting. Starting high above Sölden, the riders use gravity to build speed as they charge down the mountain together.

Once the group gets moving, things become hectic very quickly. The carts slide through dirt corners, riders fight for position and the uneven terrain sends them bouncing as they try to maintain control.

Watching several carts battle down the trail at once is what gives the run its real life Mario Kart feeling. There’s always another rider nearby, another corner approaching or another unexpected moment waiting farther down the mountain.

The first-person footage makes it even better, putting you right in the middle of the action as the riders race through the spectacular alpine landscape.

Why We Loved This Video

Mountain carts already look ridiculously fun, but sending a whole group of experienced riders down together turns a simple descent into something much more entertaining.

There are close passes, wild slides and moments where everything seems just one mistake away from going completely wrong. The lack of an engine somehow makes the speed look even crazier.

It’s fast, unpredictable and packed with action — about as close as you can get to bringing a chaotic kart-racing game onto a real mountain.
