This is what the longest ski jump ever recorded looks like. Japanese ski jumping star Ryōyū Kobayashi takes on an extraordinary challenge in Iceland, launching from a specially constructed mountainside ramp and pushing the limits of how far a ski jumper can fly.
The result is spectacular: an enormous 291-meter jump that sends Kobayashi soaring across the snowy landscape before successfully reaching the ground.
Attempting the Longest Ski Jump Ever
An ordinary ski jumping hill wasn’t enough for what Kobayashi and the team wanted to achieve. Instead, a huge custom ramp was created on a snowy mountainside near Akureyri in northern Iceland.
The setting gave Kobayashi the space needed to attempt distances far beyond those normally seen on traditional ski jumping hills.
After a series of increasingly impressive attempts, he eventually reached an astonishing 291 meters, producing the longest ski jump ever recorded.
The achievement isn’t recognized as an official FIS world record because the specially organized event wasn’t an official FIS competition, but the distance itself makes the jump remarkable to watch.
Why We Loved This Video
The enormous scale is what makes this video so impressive. Wide camera angles show Kobayashi almost floating across the Icelandic mountainside as the landing area stretches far into the distance.
It’s an incredible combination of athletic ability, preparation and ambition, with one of the world’s best ski jumpers attempting something far beyond a normal competition jump.
And when the final attempt comes together, it’s one of those sporting moments that looks almost impossible even while you’re watching it happen.
