The biggest skate ramp takes skateboarding to a scale that almost doesn’t look real. Red Bull transformed the curved side of a towering government building in Porto Alegre, Brazil, into a massive temporary ramp for legendary skateboarder Sandro Dias.
After extensive preparation and a series of increasingly higher attempts, Dias eventually dropped in from an incredible 70 meters and reached more than 100 km/h on his way down.
Taking On the Biggest Skate Ramp Ever Built
The Centro Administrativo Fernando Ferrari building stands almost 89 meters tall, and its unusual curved façade has reminded local skateboarders of a gigantic quarter pipe for years.
Red Bull finally turned that idea into reality by covering the building’s curve with a specially constructed smooth surface that Sandro Dias could actually skate.
Taking on the biggest skate ramp required much more than courage. Dias prepared for the extreme speed and forces involved before gradually attempting higher starting positions on the enormous structure.
His final 70-meter drop sent him racing down the building at 103.8 km/h, earning Guinness World Records for both the tallest drop into a temporary quarter pipe and the fastest speed skateboarding on one.
Why We Loved This Video
The scale alone makes this incredible. Seeing a skateboarder standing high above the ground on the side of a 22-story building makes an ordinary skate ramp suddenly seem tiny.
Then Dias actually drops in. Watching him accelerate down the enormous curve transforms an already unbelievable construction project into a spectacular sporting achievement.
It’s a brilliant example of taking a familiar sport and pushing it to an almost unimaginable scale.
