Watch a 100-Year-Old Abandoned Workshop Renovation Come to Life in 2 Years!

What happens when someone decides to rescue a century-old workshop that has been left to deteriorate? In this incredible workshop renovation, craftsman and creator Ben Kilner takes on two years of demanding restoration work, transforming a neglected building into a space full of renewed potential.

From rotten roof timbers and damaged masonry to major floor repairs and outdoor improvements, this remarkable timelapse captures the challenges, craftsmanship, and determination involved in bringing an old building back to life.

An Incredible Workshop Renovation Two Years in the Making

Restoring a building that’s approximately 100 years old is no ordinary DIY project. Years of exposure to the elements can leave behind serious structural problems, and Ben’s workshop was no exception.

One of the major challenges involved repairing the deteriorating roof. Rotten materials had to be removed, damaged sections repaired, and the chimney rebuilt and repointed using lime mortar.

Inside, the transformation continued with repairs to the attic floor, new window glass, and treatment for mould, rot, and woodworm. Ben also installed a wood-burning stove, complete with a flue liner and a handmade brass chimney cap.

The work didn’t stop at the walls. The old workshop floor required extensive excavation, while the surrounding grounds underwent major improvements involving landscaping equipment, ground preparation, and fresh aggregate.

Ben also tackled the neighboring wood shed, repaired gutters, and applied traditional limewash. Each stage reveals another layer of the patience and practical skill required to restore an aging property.

Rather than presenting an instant makeover, the video shows how two years of steady progress can give a forgotten workshop an entirely new future.

Why We Loved This Video

There’s something incredibly satisfying about watching a neglected building gradually regain its character. The contrast between the damaged original structure and the improvements made throughout the project is fascinating.

What impressed us most is the variety of skills involved. From traditional masonry and roof repairs to woodworking and landscaping, this renovation demonstrates just how much knowledge and persistence a restoration project can demand.

For anyone who loves dramatic transformations, old buildings, or hands-on craftsmanship, this is an inspiring look at what can happen when someone refuses to give up on a place worth saving.
