This sickle transformation takes familiar curved metal blades and turns them into something completely different. Using cutting, welding, grinding and careful metalworking, DIY WELD demonstrates just how dramatically old tools can be repurposed with a creative idea and the right skills.
The most satisfying part is watching the project gradually come together. What begins as a collection of recognizable sickles eventually becomes a newly constructed tool that looks almost nothing like the materials used to make it.
Giving Old Sickles an Unexpected New Purpose
At the beginning, the curved sickle blades hardly look like the starting point for an entirely new creation. But once the metalworking begins, the idea starts taking shape.
Pieces are cut and positioned before welding brings the different components together. Grinding and finishing then help transform the rough construction into a much cleaner finished piece.
The sickle transformation is especially interesting because the original materials remain recognizable during much of the build. Step by step, however, their original purpose disappears as they’re incorporated into the new design.
It’s a great example of how discarded or repurposed metal can become the raw material for an entirely different workshop project.
Why We Loved This Video
Transformation videos are always satisfying when the starting material and finished creation look completely different, and this project delivers exactly that kind of before-and-after experience.
There’s also something fascinating about watching individual pieces that don’t seem particularly remarkable on their own gradually become part of a carefully constructed new tool.
Creative thinking, hands-on craftsmanship and plenty of metalworking make this an entertaining build from beginning to end.
