This thinnest street legal car project takes an ordinary old Ford Festiva and transforms it into something that almost looks two-dimensional. A huge section of the original car is removed, leaving behind an incredibly narrow vehicle that can actually be driven on the road.
What makes the build even more entertaining is that this isn’t simply a strange-looking display car. The creator has to solve one problem after another to turn the radically modified body into a functioning little vehicle.
Turning a Normal Car Into Something Almost 2D
The project begins with a Ford Festiva, but keeping the original width definitely isn’t part of the plan. The body is cut apart and a large portion of the middle is removed before the remaining sections are brought back together.
That extreme transformation creates plenty of new challenges. The original engine is too large for the narrow body, so a compact electric motor from an e-bike is used instead.
Even the controls have to adapt to the tiny interior. With so little room available, seemingly ordinary parts suddenly become obstacles that need their own creative solutions.
Once the thinnest street legal car is finally assembled and painted, the strangest part begins: actually driving it. Seeing this ridiculously skinny machine moving through normal traffic makes it look like a car that somehow escaped from a cartoon.
Why We Loved This Video
The finished car is funny enough on its own, but watching the entire transformation makes it much more impressive. Every time the unusual dimensions create another problem, a new solution has to be invented.
And then there’s the reaction it gets on the road. Surrounded by normal-sized vehicles, the tiny width becomes even more ridiculous.
It’s weird, creative and completely unnecessary — which is exactly why it’s so much fun to watch.
