This man is climbing stairs on his head, and somehow he keeps going step after step. Chinese acrobat Li Longlong uses extraordinary strength, balance and body control to propel himself up a staircase in one of the strangest record-breaking feats you’ll ever see.
There are no normal footsteps here. Instead, Li balances upside down with his head against each stair and repeatedly launches his entire body upward, carefully landing in position for the next step.
36 Stairs Without Taking a Single Step
Watching the technique in slow motion makes the challenge even more impressive. Li has to support and control his body while upside down, generate enough force to move upward and then land accurately on the next stair.
Every successful jump puts him slightly higher, but it also means repeating the same incredibly demanding movement again. There’s almost no room for error when your head is effectively taking the place of your feet.
The combination of strength and precision required is remarkable. Maintaining balance on a flat surface would already be difficult enough; doing it while repeatedly moving upward along a staircase takes the challenge somewhere completely different.
Li ultimately completes 36 consecutive steps, turning climbing stairs on his head into an official Guinness World Records achievement.
Why We Loved This Video
This is exactly the kind of world record that makes you wonder who first looked at a staircase and decided to attempt it upside down.
We especially love how immediately understandable the challenge is. You don’t need to know anything about acrobatics to appreciate how difficult it must be to launch your entire body upward, land on your head and repeat the movement dozens of times.
Strange, impressive and almost impossible to look away from, it’s a perfect example of the wonderfully unusual human achievements that make world records so entertaining.
