Watch a Giant Rube Goldberg Machine Complete 412 Steps to Light a Christmas Tree!

Imagine building a gigantic Rube Goldberg machine with 412 individual steps just to switch on a Christmas tree! That’s exactly what a creative team in Latvia accomplished in this spectacular Guinness World Records video. What should take a single press of a button becomes an extraordinary chain reaction lasting ten minutes.

Created by Latvian company Scandiweb for a festive celebration in Riga, this incredible contraption combines rolling balls, moving wheels, levers, and unexpected household objects. Every movement triggers another, building suspense toward one brilliantly simple goal: illuminating a Christmas tree!

A Rube Goldberg Machine With 412 Incredible Mechanical Steps

A Rube Goldberg machine is designed to accomplish a simple task through an intentionally complicated sequence of actions. The more imaginative and elaborate the process, the more entertaining the result.

For this remarkable project, Scandiweb assembled a huge interconnected system featuring traditional mechanical elements alongside surprising additions, including a fan and a coffee maker.

The attempt began when Riga’s mayor and a Scandiweb representative pressed a red button. From there, one action set off another as the mechanism progressed through hundreds of carefully arranged stages.

The final sequence was particularly creative: a sound meter responded to the cheers of spectators, helping trigger the Christmas tree illumination.

Building and preparing the machine took approximately two months. Engineers, construction specialists, employees, and volunteers worked together to design and test the complicated arrangement.

In December 2016, the team successfully completed its 412-step attempt, surpassing the previous Guinness World Records mark of 382 steps.

Why We Loved This Video

We love how an everyday task becomes a spectacular demonstration of imagination, patience, and mechanical creativity. Every new movement brings another unexpected surprise.

The suspense is equally entertaining. With hundreds of connected steps, you can’t help wondering whether the entire sequence will work successfully.

Best of all, the festive finale transforms a complicated engineering achievement into a joyful public celebration. It’s a brilliant combination of creativity, teamwork, and holiday magic.
